龍幼體 (Juvenile Dragon) - Concept Painting

Relative Comparison

Final Painting

This is a concept painting of a young aquatic dragon.
For this character, I was inspired by the aquatic creatures Oarfish and the Coelacanth. (What is an Oarfish? What is a Coelacanth?)
In fact, due to its ginormous size, vivid color, and long body, Oarfishes were once confused by sailors as a sea serpent or a dragon in ancient times.

I have started 3D modeling for this creature model (this will be my 2nd experimental creature design, after the Nautilus Beast). I am also planning on painting the adult version of this beast. Coming soon!

Here are symbol designs representing a beast. It's still at works so I will post more information when it's ready!

The Beast design FINALLY DONE!!!!

Overall

Excavator
Main body (including engine chambers, fuel synthesizers, and other vital organs)

Main locomotive features (with secondary appendages as a backup)

Close Up

"No one knows how long the years have past since it begun its journey. No one knows who or what has built it or why it walks upon the mortal realm. Some say it is an avatar of a nature, a mountain made entirely out of natural metal. Others say it is a walking fortress, built by those who devoted their life to the laws of destruction. There are also few people who worship it as a divine God who has fallen from the high above chained impermeable adamantine shackles, forced to live among the mortals.  Yet no one, not even the eldest of the known worlds knows the true nature of the colossal machine beast that roams the endless planes.

Despite its inorganic and machine-like appearance, the monolithic beast is no doubt a living creature. When the beast becomes hungry, it races its colossal head and opens its powerful jaw to consume any raw materials it can find. It mows down the hills and drinks the lakes and seas up dry. Rich minerals and vital supplements are transported through the belted canal between its head and its engine chambers and are properly processed, filtered, and stored into a chamber.

The beast consumes and tramples on anything around it and no one dares to stand in its way. Houses crushed to the ground, people screaming, families distorted, one-peaceful neighborhood destroyed, the indifferent beast moves on, journeys across the endless horizon with destination unknown to the eyes of mortals..."

-Rough Draft of the Machine Beast

Finished at last!!!!!! MY FIRST GRAND SCALE MECHANICAL MODEL. I'm so happy about the the result and learned so much during the process :) I'm so attached to this model since I worked so hard on it for so long.

Each parts right down to the smallest of the gears were modeled produced separately. Each gear bits were assembled into major apparatuses within the different work stations. After array of quality tests, reassembling, experimental renderings, camera tests, and final minor editing, each body parts were assembled into one final file in 3Ds MAX. Some of the parts that were too big to be imported were rendered separately and installed with rest of the assembled models using After Effects and Photoshop.

I still have to find a way to render it into a turntable (due to its shear size) [Any Suggestions Most Welcome!] I'm considering this as a start for my future mechanical designs. Can't wait :)

Experimental Displays of the Great Behemoth

Part I: Close Up

Part I: Tilted View

Part II: Tilted View

Part II: Front View

Part III: Toe

Part IV: Ankle

Part V: Front Leg

Each essential parts of my new machine in their respective assemblage area. Before I completed each models, I also made few smaller models of machine assembling gears and factory equipments that fits with each major models. The gradient of burnt sienna/umber fading into black was used to make overall old industrial atmosphere of the factory area where the parts are held. I'm almost done with three major parts with more intricate designs so I will post that as soon as I'm done:)

Nautilus Creature (Photoshop Color Composition Experiment)

I made these while playing with multiplying layer function of the photoshop. I came across the picture of this soothing underwater picture with streaming spotlight. I thought it's quiet suitable to let my creature to live in so while clicking, twitching, and painting this and that... I manage to pull these off. I'm quiet interested to this newfound skill and planning to use them often to my later creatures :)

Nautilus Creature

Here it is folks!!! My first attempt to create a imaginary creature through 3D software:) I had so much fun separating each essential parts (model texture alike) and put it all together. This practice&experiment greatly helped me to play around and practice using shapes/colors as well as learning new skills. Just can't wait to build next creature model which I'll start tomorrow (By the way this creature is the first of the series of experimental creature designs which I'll also use it for the demo reel).

Water Dragon Concept Sketch

The final sketch for the Water Dragon.

Water Dragon Character Chart

The Character chart for 3D modeling of the Sea Dragon. Most of the concept and motifs are from the basic outlook of the amphibians and the deep dwelling ocean organisms such as the deep sea angler. Instead of the reptilian feature that most dragonlike creatures are depicted, I decided to work more to the native aquatic creatures such as fishes and amphibians.

Wendigo Creature Sketch

Here's some latest Creature sketches that I did during my spare time. Recently I become interested in concept of transformation, so for this particular creature I gave it a face that can change based on its aggression level.
